The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave was a good domestic suspense book. It was a quick read and I really enjoyed the main characters Hannah and Bailey.
One day a girl shows up at Hannah’s door with a note from her husband of about a year. All it says is “Protect her”. Hannah immediately knows that he means his 16 year old daughter Bailey but doesn’t know what she needs protecting from. She then hears that her husband Owen’s company is being raided by the Feds and Owen doesn’t come home that day. As she tries to figure out what is going on, what he husband was mixed up in, and why Bailey needs protecting she keeps finding more questions than answers. Bailey has not accepted Hannah step-mother but as Hannah and Bailey try to unravel this mystery their relationship grows and is one of the heartwarming things about this book. It made me remember how important reliable loving relationships are.
This was on of my Book of the Month choice this summer and was also Reese’s Book Club’s May pick!
