I have not read a book by Alice Feeney before but her new book Rock Paper Scissors was very well done. If her other books are this twisty I’m going to have to check them out!
London couple Amelia and Adam’s marriage is in trouble and when Amelia wins a getaway to Blackwater Loch in the Scottish Highlands she thinks it would be a good chance to either fix the marriage or move on. They arrive to a converted chapel that appears charming but quickly becomes spooky, scary and dangerous! What is really going on? How did she actually win this getaway? The state of their marriage is decided by the end of the weekend but how it got there took me by surprise!
Adam,the husband, is a writer and is quite self-absorbed He also suffers from prosopagnosia, aka face blindness which does complicate relationships including his marriage. The story is told in alternating points of view and interspersed with letters his wife writes to him on each anniversary even though she never gives them to him. These provide insight into what she is really feeling each year even as she tries to hide it on the outside. Can the marriage be saved? I thought I had some sense of what was going to happen but I was very wrong! Great twists and turns with some creepy sprinkled in! Just what I needed this weekend!!
