Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens was a great book! Kya Clark is a girl who lives in the marshes of North Carolina. She basically raises herself and becomes known as the “Marsh Girl” in the town of Barkley Cove. This is a story of resilience and perseverance, but I did think some of Kya’s life was just a little too far-fetched and unrealistic (which is why I only gave it 4 stars on Goodreads). There were some interesting characters that were pretty well developed – some who show compassion and others who are too caught up in appearances to show compassion to those not like them. I am usually not a fan of books where the author spends a lot of time describing the scenery but Owens wrote this so beautifully that I got caught up trying to picture Barkley Cove! Overall, I really liked this debut novel! As for the photo, it’s not a great picture, but we have this pastel by Will Klemm hanging in our family room and I kept glancing up at it as I read this book since it somewhat reminded me of a small house in a marsh so I thought I’d include it in my book pic!

That’s a great review and the picture combination is well done! Sets up the mood 🙂
